The worst thing about housework is that it is so incredibly relentless. Especially dishes and laundry. You JUST get it all finished and bam there are more. Rinse and repeat multiple times a day. It gets tiring and with a family. It’s not just one or two dishes but at least 4+ for every meal. My family is great, don’t get me wrong. They bus their dishes, will load, and unload the dishwasher, wash the pots and pans… at least most of the time. But there are those moments, we all have them, when someone is rushing out the door to sports practice and dishes are abandoned on the table, or the counter. Maybe the dishwasher is running and so there are stacked dishes waiting for their turn. More often than not, there is a tea mug set down half-finished to gradually cool before anyone gets back to it. It happens daily and is part of living as a busy family. I wouldn’t want to trade it for anything. However, I have found the secret to feeling like you’ve got it all together even when maybe you don’t….. It’s fresh flowers. Fresh flowers are the one thing that can always make me feel like I have my shit together even when I don’t. Fresh flowers on the counter, house must be clean! Fresh flowers on the counter, dinner is already planned and prepped. Fresh flowers on the counter, I’ve got my life pulled together. I don’t. Let’s be real. It’s still a hot mess at times around here and dinner? No plan yet. Don’t worry we won’t starve tonight, but it’s not prepped or planned. Yet somehow it feels way less stressful when fresh flowers are on the counter and the lie I tell myself that I have it all together seems to be true. How could the house be messy if I have my act together enough to have fresh flowers on the table? One of my good friends knows how I feel about fresh flowers. For Christmas she got me a bouquet subscription from the Bougs Co. (https://bouqs.com). I LOVE it. The flowers have been stunningly beautiful. The flowers last for weeks- so much so that I kept the greens and two of the blooms from my first bouquet and added them to the second that arrived a month later! Every bouquet has also included some unique blooms that you don’t see at your everyday florist or in the grocery story floral section. My most recent bouquet arrived with a miniature pineapple! It feels like a trip to Hawaii every time I walk past it. 10/10 HIGHLY recommend!
