It’s been more than a year since i join my local Buy Nothing Facebook group. It has been so successful that my group actually split because it was getting to be too large. Buy nothing is a “way to give and receive, share, lend, and express gratitude through a worldwide network of hyper-local gift economies in which the true wealth is the web of connections formed between people who are real-life neighbors.” You can post items on your local list to give freely or ask for something that you need. I have loved seeing items in my closets, drawers, cupboards- home go to someone who needs it. Who loves the items that I have passed on and who is most importantly using it. I have been witness to and even on the receiving end of some very generous gifts, but more than the cool things I’ve received or even given away is that cool people in my neighborhood that I have met through the buy nothing project.
